Cruiser or LX470. Other suggestions are welcome too. Does anyone know where to find crash tests on these mammoth rigs?

They are much safer than your outgoing vehicle. I wouldn’t worry too much.

LX470s are cheaper but you have to watch out for the air ride. Some have it and some don’t.

That I am aware of. Nevertheless it’s annoying that I couldn’t seem to find the information.

It is a simple remedy if it brakes. But you’re right that is a disadvantage of the LX

If safety is the most important, get a minivan :p

the air ride you can probably convert to regular suspension :)

Hammer has a J80 Land Cruiser... he knows a ton about these vehicles.

It’s always up there. Too many good people I know have passed away from a crash.
But then again crash > minivan

Those are getting a tad old for me. I would like to stay 00 +

But as dogisbadob said the conversion is easy/can be lifted at the same time.

Any car from the past 20 years is safe.

It’s hard for cars that old. I only know of one crash test video for my car and zero data.

I’ve heard the swap isn’t terribly expensive

Eh I am not sure about that. You should have seen the crash test of my old truck

Yeah I know. It’s disappointing there isn’t much out there.

The 4.0 V6 without air suspension.

The want is strong. As is the cost of maintenance I’m sure

The Aussies have something:

Here in the US, I can only find results for a 1982 model:

Eh, not really, if you stay away from the more complicated (V8 HSE) versions.

Good to know. I’ll have to look more into it

I can’t help you with crash text info on mobile but I can tell you they are remarkably strong bodies. I’ve seen lots of 80 and 100 rollovers (from being hit out rock crawling) and am always amazed how little immersion and collapsing there is. Like is almost sad compared to the domestics

If you manage to find something like this and get a PPI done at some indie LR shop you should be golden.

I figured they are probably pretty good. I can’t really seem to say any downside with them.

May I interest you in the ‘08 Model T?

Let me put it this way; every other Toyota SUV from the period (Highlander, RAV4, Sequoia, 4Runner) have superb safety ratings. That basically a guarantee that the largest, heaviest, and most thoroughly built of that lineup will perform superbly in a crash test.
